Narco Tourism is a moodboard created for a photoshoot based on denim. The story and styling explores the relationship between Japanese and American interpretations of the textile through the lense of tourism. While denim was crafted in America, Japanese denim makers have become synonymous with the quality and tradition that has been lost with current day manufacterers in America. Where America is lauded as the birthplace of denim, the mills that still exist on American soil have replaced traditional methods of production for more cost efficient looms and construction, making the denim lower in quality. Narco Tourism tells the story of how Japanese Americana and American Japanophilia have borrowed from each other, evolving the visual landscape while detaching it from the history and tradition, ultimately creating a clash of cultures that is solely aesthetic.
